About Us
Lyssa Harvey Ed.S. is a teacher, therapist and an artist. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and owner of The Art and Play Therapy Center of South Carolina. Her private practice focuses on counseling children, adolescents and families. Mrs. Harvey graduated from the University of Georgia, and completed her Masters in Art Therapy at The Hertsfordshire University in England and her Ed.S in Counseling at the University of South Carolina.
The Art and Play Therapy Center is a National Provider for Play Therapy CEU’s and is approved by the S.C. Department of Labor and Licensing as a continuing education provider for Licensed Professional Counselors, and Social Workers. Mrs. Harvey in her capacity as a supervisor has credentialed Licensed Professional Counselors, Art and Play Therapists over the last 15 years.

Mrs. Harvey has developed and implemented art and play therapy programs in hospitals, and schools. Her interest in helping children and individuals with special needs led her to develop Art and Play Therapy programs at Palmetto Richland Behavioral Health and The Palmetto Richland Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
She has served on The Adventure Children’s Museum task force to develop programs for children with special needs. Mrs. Harvey was appointed by Governor Hodges to serve as the Second District Commissioner for the Department of Disabilities and Special Needs from 2001-2006. She worked with the SC Arts Commission to provide Arts and Accessibilities training throughout S.C. Mrs. Harvey has presented at state and national conferences on Creativity, Art and Play.
Mrs. Harvey has served on many community and State Boards such as Workshop Theatre, The Family Connection, and The Jewish Historical Society of S.C. She is the past Chairman of the Board of Directors for Keep the Midlands Beautiful. Mrs. Harvey's work as a therapist and teacher over the years has paralleled her work as an artist. She has won awards for her watercolors, clay sculpture and photography. She presently shows her work in Galleries in Columbia and Charleston. She is a member of the S.C. Watercolor Society.
