On September 24, Arcadia’s Edge, Columbia’s first certified green apartment community, was honored with a Silver Best New Development Award by Multi-Housing News (MHN)at their annual national awards celebration in New York City. The MHN Excellence Awards recognizes the multifamily industry’s most noteworthy people, companies and projects nationally.

Arcadia’s Edge is the first certified green apartment community in Columbia and is nestled around Roper Pond and wetlands in the Forest Acres community. Arcadia’s Edge is designed to minimize the impact on the ecosystem. Wetland Carpets, Floating Wetlands, Baysavers and natural irrigation preserve and enhance the environment while sustainable landscaping helps attract wildlife. All of the 204 apartments feature over-sized windows and natural materials, such as plank hardwood flooring, granite countertops and ceramic tile flooring. Sustainable features include highly efficient windows and insulation, Energy-Star certified lights and appliances, and low-flow water fixtures.

“Our goal was to create an urban retreat where residents could escape,” said Matt Mundy, an Arcadia’s Edge development associate.  “At Arcadia’s Edge, residents enjoy an environmentally sustainable lifestyle in homes that feature intuitive design and functionality.”

To select this year’s winners, the MHN judges looked at a number of criteria including design concept, financial performance, customer service and resident satisfaction. This is the second national recognition for Arcadia’s Edge. Earlier this year, it was one of the first apartment communities in the nation to achieve Silver Certification through the National Green Building Standard by the National Association of Homebuilders.
