FRESH START partnership leads to arrests

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced that Operation Fresh Start, the partnership with Richland County Magistrates and the Sheriff’s Department, lead to 56 people turning themselves in and taking advantage of the chance to start new.

Sheriff Leon Lott states that on April 2 and 3, 2012 “Fresh Start” was offered to those currently running from the law, who have outstanding non-violent magistrate level offenses.  The Sheriff adds the effort was to provide individuals a positive opportunity to take responsibility for their past actions by clearing any outstanding traffic or magistrate level warrants.

Sheriff Leon Lott is proud to partner with the Richland County Magistrates and for the success of this program; clearing 65 warrants including fugitives from Georgia and other jurisdictions in South Carolina.

Sheriff Leon Lott states that Fresh Start was provided to give persons a chance to walk in, immediately appear before a judge, adjudicate their warrants and begin a fresh start. After offering everyone the chance for a fresh start, the Sheriff states that those who did not take advantage of this opportunity will be sought.  Sheriff Leon Lott wants everyone to know that if you run from the law, you will be found and brought to justice.
