The Mid-Carolina chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness has announced the host committee for its 5th Annual NAMIWalks 5k event on May 19, 2012 at the West Columbia Riverwalk. By joining the host committee, these local business, healthcare, media, & community leaders are voicing their support for NAMI Mid-Carolina and its mission to break the stigma of mental illness in the Midlands.

 “We’d like to see people become more comfortable with the subject of mental illness,” says NAMI Mid-Carolina President Jack Balling.

The BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation presented a check for $5.25 million to the South Carolina Free Clinic Association (SCFCA) on Friday, enabling the 42 member clinics across the state to have a centralized, integrated and multifaceted support system.

The system will include such functions as establishing a statewide certification program and special projects to implement statewide or regional efforts that would strengthen individual clinics’ capabilities
