SC group creates school choice booklet | News
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - School choice advocates hope a booklet outlining parents' education options in South Carolina boosts the chances of controversial legislation providing more choices.
Palmetto Policy Forum released Thursday a 16-page booklet that gives both public and private school options and gives website links for more information.
The booklet was mailed Thursday to 25,000 families with school-age children in South Carolina. The conservative think tank also posted an online version that people can scroll through.
A limited program starting Jan. 1 for special needs students is titled a "new opportunity." Legislators passed the program as part of the current state budget, but its future is uncertain. For the program to continue after this school year, legislators must either insert it again into next year's budget or approve it as a separate measure.
